This week I have decided to participate in Amy's Finer Things Friday meme. For my readers who don't know, a meme is something that one blogger hosts on a particular subject area. Other bloggers then write their own posts on that subject and are able to put a link on the host's page. What a super cool way to find interesting new blogs!
On to my post. Last night as I was going to bed I was trying to come up with a good Finer Thing. Then it hit me. What in life could possibly be better than knowing you are on your way to Heaven. Assurance of salvation definitely meets the requirements of a Finer Thing in my eyes!
"He who has the Son has life; and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." I John 5:12-13If you ask people where they will spend eternity, most will say that they "hope" or "think" they will spend it in Heaven. They have no assurance of where they are going and no true peace about it. Assurance of salvation is my favorite thing for precisely this reason. It comes with the peace of God which surpasses all understanding that guards my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Hallelujah! If you have never experienced this peace I would encourage you to pray the following prayer out loud. If you believe it with your heart, you will be saved and can know the peace that comes with knowing for sure where you will go when you die.
"For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10
God in Heaven, I know that I'm a sinner and I need Your help. I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that You, God, raised Him from the dead. Jesus, right now I invite you to come into my life. I confess with my mouth: Jesus, You are my Lord. Please forgive me of my sins. I forgive all others. Make Yourself real to me and keep me from evil. I turn from following sin. I've decided to follow You.
Hallelujah! Please let me know if you have prayed this for the first time. As always, comments are welcome!
